Here's why networking is a great long-term skill to learn

Let’s talk more about networking this week. We’ve talked about it in past newsletters, but I have to bring it back up from a new perspective.

Here’s why networking is a great long-term skill to learn.

My family and I are on vacation/networking trip in Las Vegas. This is our 2nd time coming out here in a few months.

The first time, I made some incredible new connections and was able to enhance previous connections while out here.

This time around, I was able to connect and network even more.

Here’s just one example that might help bring some ideas to your networking:

Patrick Hundley (aka Pat and @patemdowneq on Instagram) recently worked on several tracks on Kanye West’s latest album, “Donda.”

The day after the album was released, I somehow ended up in Pat’s studio just vibing and making music with him and his team!

How did that happen?

It started a while ago. Early last year, I connected with Pat on social media, sending him beats and links to check out. Like this one of a piano remix I did to a song by one of the artists he works with (Zhavia Ward, check her out!).

Eventually, I learned he was out in Vegas. When time came to start planning a trip out here to take our daughter to Usher’s concert, I knew I would try to link up with Pat and his team then.

It didn’t happen then, but I told Pat we *might be back in the area in a few months.

A few months later (right now), and here we are.

We got the schedules together and just yesterday, one day after the #1 album (in several countries) that he worked on was released, I had the opportunity to spend a day with him and his team, making great music and connections.

So why is networking a great skill to learn? You might not be the best musician. Or the best audio engineer. Or the best...insert your word or title.

But if you are the person that other people like being around, that can open many more doors than just being the best...whatever in the world.

Let’s get out there and get to networking!

Have a great week everyone!
